HOW TO OBTAIN THE WISDOM OF GOD – 11/29/22 (Tuesday of the First Week of Advent)

Luke 10:21–22
In that same hour he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to infants; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. All things have been delivered to me by my Father; and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, or who the Father is except the Son and any one to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.”

Blessed Tuesday! Jesus Christ spoke of the wise and the learned during His time who were unfortunate because they were unable to accept His teachings. This does not mean that it’s wrong to learn things or to be an expert in particular field. Rather, Jesus is contrasting the difference between worldly wisdom and heavenly wisdom. However, our Lord is reminding us that we need one thing that is necessary for us to accept true wisdom from God, and that is becoming child-like. In fact, this is seen, not just in the words of Jesus, but in His life. Jesus Christ is the Eternal Wisdom. He knows all things because His knowledge is unlimited and infinite. And, out of His merciful love, Jesus chose to be like one of us. During Christmas, we remember and celebrate the glorious event of the birth of our Savior. Our Lord became an infant to show us the importance for us to be like infants spiritually when we offer ourselves to God.

Expertise in other fields can give us limited knowledge. But, what can give us true knowledge is possessing Jesus Christ Himself, and the fullness of our happiness in this pursuit of Divine Wisdom is found in heaven. It is God’s will for us to have child-like faith, humility and simplicity. How can this be possible? We can do this by following God’s commandments and submitting fully to His will. The reason why some Jews and other people were not able to believe the gospel despite their knowledge was because of their pride. They depended on their own opinions instead of listening to God. To be child-like, we should not justify our sins by having excuses for our actions such as telling lies about other people, using harmful and offensive words, etc. At the same time, God is also reminding us to be humble in such a way that even in matters outside of faith, we should still not elevate ourselves or our opinions over others. We are given a blessing and opportunity to be wise in the eyes of God, not by learning many topics, but by possessing Christ, the Eternal Wisdom, who dwells within our hearts. Let’s praise God for His mercy, graciousness and wisdom.

Amen +

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, be with us always until the hour of our death. Amen. +

May the Lord + bless us, protect us from all evil and bring us to everlasting life. Amen. +
