DO WE TRUST THAT GOD WILL TRANSFORM US? – 12/02/22 (Friday of the First Week of Advent)

Matthew 9:27–28
And as Jesus passed on from there, two blind men followed him, crying aloud, “Have mercy on us, Son of David.” When he entered the house, the blind men came to him; and Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to him, “Yes, Lord.”

Blessed Friday! There were two blind men who were following Jesus Christ. Though they were physically blind, their blindness could also symbolize spiritual blindness. How can people be spiritually blind? This can happen in many ways, and one is when the person is unaware of the truth of the teachings of Jesus Christ. In the culture today, many are promoting ideologies that oppose the gospel of our Lord and the doctrines of the Catholic Church. Due to temptations and negative influences in the world, many are unable to see the truth of God. Besides this, we can also be spiritually blind when we do not see the importance of prayers in our spiritual life. It’s as if we think that we can only do good works by our own strength and not by God’s strength. This is a lie because we can only persevere in our moral and spiritual life by God’s grace. The two blind men are models for us. It’s because they were following Jesus and begged for His mercy. In the same way, our Lord is inviting us to follow Him, to make Him the center of our lives, to repent of our sins and to continously seek His mercy and graces.

When Jesus entered the house, our Lord asked them whether they truly believed that He could heal them. This is important for us to reflect upon because true conversion will take place once we place our trust in Jesus. Do we trust that God will transform us? Sometimes, people may be afraid to seek God after rejecting Him and the teachings of the Church. They may think that God will not accept them. It can also be the case that when we commit faults, we may be tempted to believe that we have no chance of entering heaven. The truth is that God loves us, and He is always giving us the opportunity to turn away from sins and come back to Him. Let’s remember that God dwells within us. God lives in the home of our hearts despite our imperfections and weaknesses. Like the two blind men, may we have confidence in the mercy of God and glorify Him in our actions and deeds. Through God’s love and power, He will enlighten us. Our Lord will help us to see His plan for us and His presence in our lives. By trusting in Jesus, we have the hope that He will protect us from the dangers of sins and lead us to salvation.

Amen +

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, be with us always until the hour of our death. Amen. +

May the Lord + bless us, protect us from all evil and bring us to everlasting life. Amen. +
